Wildland fire suppression
Since the PVFD serves a rural community roughly 15-20% of our call volume is
grass/wildland fires, we have two Types 6 Brush trucks, a Type 3 Brush truck, a Type 1
Tactical Tender and a specialty UTV outfitted for brush fires and search & rescue. The
PVFD does not just respond to grass fires in Lamar County, we have a team of 7-8
Volunteer firefighters who have specialized training in large scale wildfires. Our
department has responded all over the United States to assist with large-scale fires.
From West Texas to Central California. In 2019 the Powderly VFD along with Paris Fire
Department sent a team along with our Type 3 brush truck to assist in fighting the
California Lighting Fires. Powderly was deployed to the Creek fire which at the time was
the largest wildfire in the country estimating over 300,000 acres. Our TIFMAS team has
also been deployed to assist with natural disasters like hurricane Harvey.
